Mission Statement
Movement in Music Ensemble (MIME) is a professional orchestra that aims to bring innovative concerts to
audiences across Maryland by combining memorized classical music with choreography to create a visual
presentation that brings the music to life. MIME musicians work with a choreographer to bring movement and
breath to each performance, giving the audience a more vivid entry into the world of classical music. MIME
performances are presented in an informal setting and with a shorter concert length in order to attract young
adults as well as families and the traditional classical audience.

Memorized music, no conductor, choreographed movement
Inspired by the great James Ross, previous artistic director at University of Maryland, MIME was created to provide audiences with a unique experience which not only involves traditional music but also provides a visual presentation of the musicians themselves. MIME does something that no other professional orchestra does by creating unique choreography and playing entirely from memory and without aid of a conductor.
